Catching up with Joan Mulholland

Freedom Rider Joan Mulholland has lived along the Pike corridor for fifty years. An Arlington native, her extraordinary bravery and leadership during the Civil Rights movement have been internationally recognized. One of her five sons, Loki Mulholland, has been keeping her busy with speeches, appearances at schools and civic organizations here and abroad, books, his award-winning documentary videos, ensuring her legacy and values stay alive. The Joan Trumpauer Mulholland Foundation works to carry the work of understanding, justice, and racial harmony forward.

An extensive interview with Joan that appeared in our Transitions book can be read online here.

CPDP Photographer Lloyd Wolf was treated to chicory coffee and conversation at her home. Always a pleasure.
