Winter Light/Close enough to home

The sun lingered as the moon came out. Winter.

The snow and rocks by the water is very close by to where Columbia Pike passes over Four Mile Run.

Jim McCaskill and Jake

Long-time Columbia Pike area resident Jim McCaskill, with his beloved cat, Jake.

Jim taught in Arlington County Public Schools for thirty years, and retired from teaching a decade ago, He also had been a sergeant in the US military, stationed in Europe.

He was recently interviewed for this project by Todd and Paula Endo.

Taing, of the Oriental Supermarket, at 5100 Columbia Pike; the owner and employees of the International Barbershop (Huong K Hoang, Sirinapa Srinuan, Jeanine Phoung, Hue So Huynh), at 5035 Columbia Pike; and of Shawn McGhee, a friend of the photographer, shown on S. Dinwiddie Street, just off the Pike.

These panoramic images, depicting significant stretches along Columbia Pike in Arlington Virginia, were created by CPDP photographer Mimi Xang Ho.

Of particular note: the apartment building depicts the place Ms. Ho lived when she and her family immigrated to the United States from Laos.

Mekbib Gebertsadik

These photographs are of the exceptional Ethiopian-born artist, Mekbib Gebertsadik. Mr. Gebertsadik has a degree from an art college in Addis Ababa, and is currently pursuing his MFA at Howard University. He arrived in Arlington seven years ago, part of the large Ethiopian community that has settled in the Washington DC area. His parents, Wodajo Gebretsadik Worke and Tadesech Tafferi Wube, arrived in the United States just one month ago.

Taste of the Pike Festival

This community festival, which celebrates the exceptional diversity of peoples living along Columbia Pike, was held on September 20, 2008, at the Arlington Mill Community Center (4970 Columbia Pike). It was organized by the Columbia Pike Redevelopment Organization (CPRO).

The Bolivian and Peruvian dance troupes are real crowd-pleasers... and the food is terrific.
