Black Lives Matter | community protest march along Columbia Pike
A large and peaceful demonstration was held in Arlington, Virginia, to protest the recent murders by police of George Floyd and many other black citizens.
The march was organized by Anika and Yolanda Kwinana. The marchers traveled from the Columbia Pike Library up Glebe Road, and eventually to Ballston and the Courthouse area, where many headed to the larger protest in DC. These photographs are from the march as it headed along Columbia Pike .
Arlington County Police and other government officials cooperated and aided the march and the marchers.
Leadership matters.
Black lives matter.

Evolving situation on the Pike | Pandemic documentation # 2
Some businesses along the Pike have worked out ways to continue serving their customers (with new banners courtesy of CPRO) Most, though unfortunately not all, people are wearing masks and practicing social distancing. Other businesses remain closed.
Apparently the 22204 zip code has the highest rate of COVID-19 infection in the state, and our area is one of the hardest-hit in the nation. People do not seem to be panicking - resiliency and creativity are community strengths.

Transitions book now available!
Transitions, the Columbia Pike Documentary Project’s new book-length catalog, is now available.
Elegantly designed by our team member Xang Ho, it is 296 pages long, with numerous in-depth interviews of Columbia Pike residents, business owners, and community leaders by Sushmita Mazumdar and Lloyd Wolf, and eye-opening photo essays by Dewey Tron, Lara Ajami, Moises Gomez, Xang Ho, and Lloyd Wolf.
It’s a fascinating plunge into the shared stories of a diverse community in transition. And it’s really beautiful, too.
Click here to order the book (best from Monday evenings through Friday evenings).
Price includes shipping to the US.
