Isabel and Karen Kaldenbach
Isabel Kaldenbach and her adopted daughter Karen (Ramos) Kaldenbach.
Isabel is an award-winning community activist, attorney and public relations professional. Her daughter Karen was a student in the Columbia Heights West Teen Photo Project, and is now a student at George Mason University. Isabel is a founder of Arlington Dogs - www.arlingtondogs.org
They are pictured here with two of their dogs, Canela and Thurber.

The Zip Code Show
These images are from the opening reception for the Zip Code Show on August 29, 2009, an art exhibition at the new Halstead building at Columbia Pike and South Walter Reed Drive.
The exhibition, created by Art Outlet and artdc.org in partnership with CPRO (the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization), ran from August 29th to September 5th.
The show featured paintings and sculpture by thirty-five area artists; the opening event included djembe drumming by the Rhythm Workers Union and belly dancing by Saffron Dance.

Columbia Pike Farmers Market
The Columbia Pike Farmer's Market, located at the corner of Columbia Pike and South Walter Reed Drive, is open on Sunday mornings from May to November. The market has been in existence for fifteen years, and features a range of produce and products from local farmers and craftspeople.
Musicians perform on many weekends.

Family walking
I was particularly struck by the rainbow colors of the cloth draping as this immigrant family strolled hand-in-hand through a parking lot in the 2500 block of Columbia Pike.
Needless to say, it was rather hot that day.
